Rugby training has now begun in preparation for our Centenary Season and at its last meeting the Management Committee formally congratulated Director of Rugby Mark Sowerby and Assistant Coach Neil Summers and the 1st XV squad on achieving promotion to National League North Three, the highest level achieved in the club's history.

Meanwhile the Squash Section is going from strength to strength and, with the courts cleaned and re-marked,  net income, after costs, has doubled in the past year. Malcolm Pickup has been formally thanked for his efforts and those of club members. Two teams will be participating in the Kirklees and Calderdale League from October. Interestingly this section has been having far more daytime useage than other squah clubs in the area.

The Bowling Section however is still seeking new recruits, particularly on Saturdays. And here there is a rather sad tale -- or tail!  One of our gorgeous barmaids had no visitors one super sunny afternoon so she decided to sunbathe on our splendid vacant green. But then, without a cloud in the sky, she got a terrible soaking when the wretched sprinklers turned themselves on. You might call this the dawn of a new facility. So come on you lot -- get your bowls out and keep her occupied!

On the property front we are still seeking a new tenant for Lockwood House, our Grade 2 listed building which dominates Lockwood Park --plus an increase in use of the Waterloo Suite. Management would welcome any thoughts, suggestions in these areas together with any new sponsors for what promises to be the busiest season in our history.

Note that the annual general meeting is on Wednesday, July 9 at 8pm
