Edward J C Bygott: player, patron and member (1934 – 2011).

It is with sadness that we advise the death of Eddie Bygott on Monday, 7th February 2011, aged 76.

Eddie had been a member and patron of HRUFC since his school days at Ellesmere College and played in a successful First XV between the years of 1955 to 1965. As a vice captain in this period, he made a successful centre partnership with Ian Fiddes.

He continued to be a committed supporter of HRUFC throughout his life, following his retirement as a player and was generously disposed to the Club – having supported many projects.

His sporting prowess was not only shown on the fields at Waterloo, but on the cricket pitch with Craven Gentlemen, on the golf courses of Huddersfield (Fixby) and Woodsome Hall – and in more recent years at the snooker table in the Borough Club, where he was Vice President.

Eddie’s business life was initially in the family paint, decorative and materials firm of Allen Jackson, which having been sold led to his investment in a dyestuffs distribution business.

He was a true gentleman, who observed many traditional standards – and who will be sadly missed at the Club and the other organisations to which he was associated.

A minute’s silence will be observed before this Saturday’s (12th February) match versus Hull – a team and club (formally Hull & East Riding) where he had many friends.
