HRUFC June news round-up

Summer brings a close to our most successful rugby season ever with Yorkshire Cup victories for both 1st and Academy sides, and ending mid-table in League North 2 with 15 victories and 77 points. In September, we will be welcoming to the League some particularly interesting clubs with hopefully good support to improve our ticket-taking and bar sales! They include Otley, Sheffield Tigers and Stockport on 27th August – which used to be named Davenport.

The bad winter weather hit the club, but we have compensations with, not least, the Chamber of Commerce agreeing a three-year lease of the Stable Block. We still have around 4,000 sq ft of vacant space available to rent representing an additional potential annual income of around £30,000. Bearing in mind that HRUFC has in total about 700 members, we would welcome any suggestions and bright ideas to improve our revenue.

One area where we believe we have scope to exploit is our website which was in 1996 deliberately and ambiguously named huddersfieldrugby. In a recent 6-week period the site attracted 5,500 “hits” which is extraordinary and must suggest considerable advertising opportunities, particularly for local business interests. We also had an enquiry from a Tennessee antique dealer about a 2x3ft poster for Town Major Ale brewed at Lockwood about 1945.
