Stuart Lancaster has today announced that the mighty Huddersfield RUFC A Team are to embark on a mini-tour to Skipton this season!
Commenting on the announcement Lancaster said: ”Skipton has all the facilities needed to meet the demands of the modern tourist, even Richard Sowerby”.
“Meeting at lunchtime on the Friday should give us an opportunity to emphasise the values and standards expected of today’s players when representing their club.”
Motivational speakers will include Clive Berry, once selected on the bench for Huddersfield’s 2nd XV during the club’s worst ever injury crisis, and Kieron Stead, who claims to have once fagged for Mike Tindall – although Tindall says he’s never heard of him.
The squad will assemble not at Penny Hill Park or West Leeds, but the Head of Steam, St George’s Square, on Friday March 9th at 1.00pm sharp, before departing by luxury coach at 5.00pm (ish).
Overnight at the Travelodge in Skipton. Trip Advisor reviews include: “the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in”, “never, ever again”, “far from the best”. “About the right level for this lot after 18 pints and a kebab” says Ian Shelton (to whom any complaints should be directed).
Saturday sees us taking on the mighty North Ribblesdale 2nd XV in what is sure to be a mouthwatering top-of-the-table clash between one set of old alecarts and another set of equally useless players! This will be followed by a short bus trip back to Huddersfield to enjoy the delights of our home town.
To keep us in touch with the traditional amateur ethos, we have eschewed all offers of centralised RFU funding and will be paying the princely sum of £40 each, although generous sponsorship deals are available, especially to brewery employees Tim Taylor.
All are welcome and to reserve a place, please email Richard Baxter.
