‘The Field’ have secured the commitment of hooker Ben Morrill and back row forward Ben Hoyle for the 2013/14 campaign.
Ben Morrill is back from injury that kept him pitch-side all of last season. Better known to his team mates as ‘The Beast’ he brings a tremendous physical presence to the side. He gained the nickname through his big carries, enormous tackles, and reputation in being impossible to tackle.
Thanks to his physicality he gained a fine pedigree, having represented Yorkshire throughout the age grades. He is also tipped to represent the county again at senior level in the near future.
Ben Hoyle, a will pack down at the back of the scrum with team captain and talisman Nick Sharpe. A committed team member himself, Hoyle is renowned for pushing the level of commitment from other players. On the field this quick and energetic player is infamous for being the thorn in the opponent’s side during the breakdown, whilst also putting his body on the line.
Head coach of Huddersfield, Gareth Lewis, has previously spent an entire training session fighting Hoyle, because the player was unhappy about being dropped. However coach still thinks very highly of the delightful duo “I’m delighted to have these two players back fit and raring to go. They are key to the plans of next season and they will set the standard at training, add aggression to the team and lead the defensive line.”
The pair comes in to boost Huddersfield’s chances of gaining promotion back into National Two North.
Morrill and Hoyle have both been on the radar of other clubs who hoped to have signed the two of them. Together the players originally came from Huddersfield’s close rivals Old Brodlians two years ago.
Lee Paxman, Huddersfield’s First Team Manager, expressed the importance of Hoyle and Morrill “These are two of the best players in the area; they are cracking lads, committed to the club and eager to lift Huddersfield back to N2N. They lead by their actions and the rest of the lads will follow them and Nick Sharpe into battle.”
