Promotion chasing Huddersfield R.U.F.C have further strengthened their squad for the upcoming season by announcing the double signing of Curtis Strong and Giles Hetherington.
The duo will slot into the already formidable looking back’s division being assembled at Lockwood Park, as Huddersfield seek to establish themselves amongst the league’s promotion contenders.
Strong, who signs from Division One North club Fylde. Is a winger by trade and has proved himself to be an accomplished talent, at only 20 years of age. He is renowned for his dynamic running and outstanding pace, attributes Huddersfield head coach Gareth Lewis could not ignore:
“Curtis Strong comes highly recommended, it’s no secret we are looking to develop a cutting edge in attack and hopefully he can bring this to the team.”
Following Strong to Lockwood Park is experienced play-maker Giles Hetherington. Hetherington, who is equally at home at fly-half or full-back joins the club from Yorkshire based team Heath R.F.C.
A key player for Heath last season, Hetherington first shot to prominence starring for league rivals Bradford & Bingley. Where he thrived under the tutelage of former Rugby League and Union star Henry Paul, finishing as the clubs top points scorer in the 2011/12 league campaign.
Both players could prove to be vital to Huddersfield’s promotion chances with Head Coach Gareth Lewis underlying their importance to the squad:
“These are two very significant signings for Huddersfield Rugby Club. To have depth in these positions (Winger & Fly-Half) is vital and to add players of this quality to our squad is very pleasing. We can’t wait to get these guys training and see them develop into Huddersfield players.”
The acquisition of two new squad members is further good news for the burgeoning Division Three North club. Who also recently announced they have agreed contract extensions with two of the team’s brightest talents Ben Morrill and Ben Hoyle.
