Former Huddersfield Rugby Union starlet Chris “Jonno” Johnson has seen his fine end of season form rewarded with a call-up to the England Counties touring squad of Belgium for June 2013.
Johnson, who still resides in the Huddersfield area, enjoyed a prolific season at National One club Fylde, amassing an impressive 244 points for his new club.
This summer’s tour of Belgium will see the English Counties Team play two fixtures. The first will be against a Belgian Presidents Select XV on Wednesday June 12th. The second will see the English Counties play the Belgian national squad on Sunday 16th June.
The tour offers an opportunity for players who have either represented their county or play in the third division (e.g below the Rugby Championship) or below, to represent their country.
Johnson is no stranger to English Counties Rugby as he made his debut for the side whilst representing Huddersfield in 2009, playing against both Ireland and France.
Huddersfield’s current 1st Team Manager Lee Paxman was pleased to hear of Johnson’s success:
“Everyone at HURFC is delighted to see a former player win national honours. He lives locally and I know everyone at the club would hope he might come back someday.”
