We are delighted to announce that Nick Sharpe has committed his future to Huddersfield Rugby Club and will remain as 1st Team Captain for the 2013-14 season. Nick is a true leader, top trainer and Huddersfield through and through. Nick will support new Head Coach Gareth Lewis for their maiden assault on National 3 next season.
Gareth Lewis is delighted to announce the news so early on, “having only been head coach for less than a week this is a major announcement and I am pleased we can make so early on”. “the current squad are all on board for next season, this will become the backbone of the side.” Gareth has been extremely busy in recruitment since taking on the role as head coach. The club are looking to strengthen the squad and the return from injury of many players will be key to the promotional campaign.
HRUFC Players Player of the Year – Tom Owen and HRUFC Player of the Year – Alex Battye are two of the players confirmed for next season. Both players have come through the junior section and have been the most consistent performers over the last few years. Alex will set the benchmark for the forwards as he leads the front row and an extremely strong forward pack. Meanwhile Tom Owen will take his roll in the midfield to provide the team with strength and pace as the coach puts together a more varied style of play. “Tom is extremely versatile and with a reduction in the subs next season his flexibility will help tremendously”.
Tom Owen has also agreed to become the club Nutritionist and will be providing all the players with nutrition support and advice during the coming season. The role will help players either trim down during the off season or help players add the right diet as they look to hit the gym to bulk up for the coming season. Tom will also be supporting the Academy Team prepare for senior rugby by giving them much needed nutritional support as they develop into senior players.
If you wish to get involved in Rugby Union, HRUFC is committed to providing an opportunity for all players of all abilities to play rugby. For further information, please contact Lee Paxman on: 07880 199808
