HRUFC FALCONS MATCH REPORT – 19TH OCTOBER 2013

By D Whittle

Huddersfield Falcons – 133
Barnsley 2nd XV – 0

Huddersfield’s Falcons scored twenty-one tries as they destroyed a woeful Barnsley side at Lockwood Park.

In an extremely one sided affair, Elliot Knight and Billy Dempsey scored hat-tricks, as Barnsley’s only contribution was a red card.

Despite the inept performance of their opponents, Field played fast-flowing liquid rugby that was offered little resistance.

The Falcons have now scored 250 points in their last three home games, conceding just five.

Olly Scrimshaw’s try after just two minutes set the trend for the afternoon, as he touched the ball down following a Howard Hanks kick.

Field would then go on to score another eight tries before half time. The second game as Gavin Rhodes showed the ability that usually sees him as a first team regular. Breaking tackles over the half-way line, he powered forward, finding the overlapping Henry Ward, who returned the ball as Rhodes dived over the line.

With two tries within the opening 10 minutes of the game, Field were really taking the game by force. Field’s third soon followed. Try-scorer Rhodes soon turned provider, as he won the lineout, the ball was delivered to Ward who drove the pack over the line.

The rest of the first half tries came as a result of Barnsley simply being unable to tackle a Field man to slow down their momentum.

Barnsley’s day went from bad to worse, as Elliot Knight, Ross Baggs, Henry Ward, and Tom Andrew all scored to already put the game out of the visitors reach, they were reduced to 14 with a red card for violent conduct.

Scoring once more before half-time through Billy Dempsey, Field carried on much the same in the second half.

Again, it was Scrimshaw who opened the account for the second half, as he simply jogged through the visiting defence to score his second of the afternoon.

Field soon extended their lead in what was a predictable afternoon, Howard Hanks broke through from just inside the Barnsley half to score, soon to be followed a try for Chris Duffy who picked the ball at the end of a simple passing move that left the Barnsley defence clueless.

Baggs, Knight and Dempsey then all picked up their second tries of the afternoon, as Huddersfield moved in on their century.

But Huddersfield weren’t to be denied a landslide victory. Knight reached his hat-trick, and Dempsey went on to reach for, before Ashton Quashie scored to proceedings.
