MATCH REPORT – HRUFC V BROADSTREET

By Ivaylo Ivanov

Huddersfield RUFC secured a much-needed 27-14 win against Broadstreet in the Saturday’s National League II North clash between the two sides at Lockwood Park.

The win was hugely important for Field after last week’s sour disappointment away against Otley.

Four tries and a penalty were more than enough to validate Huddersfield’s dominance on the pitch and bring them the five points.

Saturday’s win brought Lockwood side up to ninth in the league table with 23 points while Broadstreet team is penultimate with 10.

Both teams started the game fiercely looking for the opener. And Huddersfield were the first to succeed as in the fifth minute Benjamin Mitchell crossed the line to put his team five points ahead.

But guest responded quickly. They reorganized and put on pressure which resulted in an equalizing try by Nathan Tilsey in the 15th minute. Ben Cooper completed the conversion to give Broadstreet a 2 point lead.

Huddersfield reacted momentously by creating a number of scoring chances. But good Broadstreet defense managed to resist until the 38th minute when Huddersfied took the lead again thanks to Adam Malthouse who scored a try. Christopher Bell completed the conversion to make it 12-7 before the sides left the field for the interval.

Huddersfield went aggressively into the second half and they grabbed another three points in the 43rd minute when Christopher Bell scored a penalty.

Lockwood side continued to press their opponents and in the 61st minute Ben Mitchell made the result 20-7 scoring his second try in the game. The conversion was completed by Chris Bell.

In the 69th minute Joel Hinchliffe crossed the line again for Huddersfield, after a brilliant run down the right wing, to extend his team’s advantage to 27-7.

Guests responded putting a late pressure which resulted in Andrew Murray scoring a try in the 80th minute. The conversion was also scored by Ben Cooper but that was not enough to prevent a home win.
