Huddersfield RUFC have completed the signings of two players ahead of Saturday’s National 2 North opener against Chester.
Henry Walker, 20, has been signed from Otley and plays as hooker. 29-year-old James Purcell plays as a loose head prop and joins from Sandal.
Head Coach Gareth Lewis was delighted with the double swoop: “I’ve been looking to recruit some front row players for quite some time.
“I felt like we need to get in an experienced, recognised hooker and that’s the reason for getting in Henry Walker.
“James Purcell is a very strong, positive ball-carrying player so I’m looking forward to seeing him in action for us.”
Speaking about the reasons for making the two signings, Lewis said: “It’s all about strength in depth really. We need two forward-rowers on the bench and if you go back even a week or so ago we couldn’t do that, so we’re looking stronger now.”
Saturday marks Huddersfield’s first game back in the National 2 North and Lewis discussed their opponents: “They play with pace and start deep so our back row is going to have their work cut out to close the space down.
“The forwards have been a strength for us all pre-season so we’re going to try and get at them and cause a few problems.”
