RON CAPPER (1934 – 2014)

We are sad to announce the passing of Ron Capper.

Ron died peacefully at a care home in Worcester on Thursday, 10th July. He was four days’ short of his 81st birthday. Ron had been suffering from dementia for the past four years. His wife Dorothy (a local Huddersfield lass, former head girl at Greenhead) is being comforted by their children.

He played for Huddersfield RUFC in the Fiddes/Bygott/Taylor era for many years, after coming to the district to teach PE at Hillhouse School in 1956. He was a fleet-of-foot winger who tackled well despite his spare stature. Ron played 96 matches for Huddersfield from Season 1956/7 to 1961/2. County honours with Cheshire was his pinnacle. Ron was Patron of the Huddersfield New College Old Boys Rugby Association, attending  the reunion for the last time in 2011. After Huddersfield New College, senior teaching posts followed at Royds Hall, Ashton-under-Lyne and Worcester. In retirement, he worked tirelessly for various charities and the Church.

The funeral arrangements for Ron are as follows:

He will be interred at Worcester Crematorium, Astwood Road, Worcester, WR3 8HA at 11.30am on Tuesday, 22nd July 2014, followed by a Service of Thanksgiving from 1pm at Bromyard Road Methodist Church, Bromyard Road, St John’s, Worcester, WR2 5DL.
