The World Cup Competition 2015 by Alan Parry-Booth 6.15pm 31/10/15

All eyes were on New Zealand to lift the cherished prize
World Champion and fighting fit in everybody’s eyes
Steve Hansen’s boys were all prepared to givetheir very best
On parade with Hakas and the fern leaf on their chest.

Their first match with the Pumas at Webley was staged
The All Blacks keen to strut their stuff, a mighty battle raged
Argentina gave a great display and tried their usual tricks
They ended up with sixteen points, New Zealand twenty-six.

Their next game Namibia was staged just four days later
“I fear a touch one sided” remarked one commentator
Namibia managed fourteen points, despite this, t’was their fate
To lose to the New Zealand team who clocked up fifty-eight.

On October 3rd at Cardiff they met the Georgian team
A fine array of strapping lads dead keen to let off steam
The Georgians launched some strong attacks, time and time again
But victory went to the boys in black, forty-three points to ten.

The Following week in Newcastle they faced the might of Tonga
An eighty minute battle (which seemed a whole lot longer)
The Tongans made great efforts to reach the All Blacks line
But the match went to the Champions forty-seven points to nine.

On the 18th, back at Cardiff to play the team from France
In the eyes of English pundits the Frenchmen stood a chance
The gallic team were out of luck, they had so much to do
The final score was trieze to France, New Zealand sixty-two.

Just one week later Twickenham where they met the RSA
Better known as the Springboks, who were sure it was their day
From end to end the battle raged with penalties aplenty
South Africa scored eighteen points, the All Blacks won with twenty.

Today we have the final, the Blacks are on a spree
A tough old game but at half time N.Z. lead sixteen three.
Carter’s kicking like a champ, eleven points so far
When Milner-Skudder scored his try, Dan kicked it o’er the bar.

Two minutes in the second half and Nonu scores a try
Carter missed conversion, I can but wonder why
Fifty-two minutes gone, they get a yellow card
Then Pocock scores Australia’s try, by gosh this game is hard.

Foley then converted, Oz is on the move again
But the All Blacks lead the scoreboard by twenty-one to ten
Nigel Owen is in control he keeps the game quite tight
There’s so much going on at once that I can hardly write.

Australia is still alive, Smith just scored a try
which Foley very soon converts, they’re just four points away
Then Carter kicks a drop goal ten minutes still to go
New Zealand building up their lead despite the ebb and flow

The All Blacks have a penalty and Carter does the trick
They now are ten full points ahead, five minutes still to tick
Barratt scored a smashing try which Carter then converted
A try which came from nowhere, how Mr Barratt spurted.

Within the final minute for everyone to see
So once again we must applaud an All Black victory.
And that is how I saw it so please try not to curse
This is my very first attempt at commentary in verse.
