Huddersfield entertains York on Sunday, March 15th at Lockwood Park in the semi-final of the Yorkshire Cup – kick off 12:00 noon.
York qualified for the semi-final with a 29 – 10 win over West Park Leeds whilst Huddersfield had a convincing win over Ilkley 41 – 7. The other semi-final is between Selby and Old Rishworthians.
Many of the Huddersfield squad have been together for 10 years, when they started out as under 6’s, which is a great testament to the Mini and Junior section of the club and reinforces the great camaraderie there is in rugby. At least they can say they played at the same club as Luther Burrell (just). The current squad are drawn from all across the region and from 11 different schools.
From the early days, when the squad won the Boston Festival as under 7’s, they have had further success reaching the final of the Yorkshire Cup as under 13’s, and the following year winning the Yorkshire Plate. Ten of the current squad have had Yorkshire or West District representation, which emphasises the coaching and development, available within the club.
Whatever the result on Sunday the squad will enjoy a change of scenery the following weekend when they go on a tour to North Wales to play in the Mold Festival.
Let’s give these young men the support they deserve on Sunday, they are the future players of Huddersfield RUFC 1st XV.
