The club has recently unveiled its newly re-vamped WW2 memorial. References to two more former players who made the supreme sacrifice have now been included.

Their photos were missed off when the original was produced back in 1946 although their names have always been listed in the ‘Roll of Honour’ in the handbook.

The newly included men are Harry Fletcher who was in the Royal Corps of Signals and lost his life in 1942 fighting in North Africa with the 7th Armoured Division aged 31. Before the war he played in the Falcons and ‘A’ teams.

Also John Melville Taylor who was a sergeant and navigator in 44 Squadron Bomber Command and died in 1941 when the Handley Page Hampden bomber in which he was flying on a mission to Berlin was lost over the North Sea.As yet the club has not been able to locate a photo of John however.

It is fitting that 70 years on these men who gave their lives in the name of freedom are remembered by younger generations of players who have been able to enjoy it.
