JOHN KEOGH

Huddersfield Rugby Union Football Club is sad to announce that, long time member of Harrogate Rugby Club, John Keogh died on Sunday 17th January 2016.

After completing his National Service John joined Huddersfield RUFC in 1954 where he played for the 1st XV as back row or second row.

He also played for Preston Grasshoppers in the 1960/1961 season.

John joined Harrogate in 1962 and captained the Georgians.

He was one of the founder members of the Harrogate Touchline Internationals in 1988 and he was Chairman of the Former Players Association from 1993 to 1997.

Away from the rugby club he was a stalwart of the Harrogate Gilbert and Sullivan Society, appearing in many productions and he was a member of the Druids Cricket Club and a founder member of Huddersfield RUFC Cricket club in the 1950’s.

He will be remembered for his ready wit, as a raconteur, and the life and soul of the party.

His funeral will take place on Thursday 28th January at 1.30 p.m. at St. Robert’s Church, Robert Street, Harrogate HG1 1HP and afterwards at Harrogate Rugby Club, Rudding Lane.
