Western Vikings RUFC, a community rugby club based in Peel, Isle of Man, visited Huddersfield for matches against HRUFC on Saturday 29th October. This was their largest tour to date, with u9s and u12s travelling over. After an early start at the airport, there were no travel delays and we arrived at Huddersfield just after 11am.
The u9s had two games, and each club won one apiece, with some good support play, direct running and strong tackling. The u12s played a match of 3x 15 minute sections and had an ideal start by taking the lead. However, Huddersfield bounced back, and they have already discovered the benefit of playing the ball out early from the breakdown to the backs, who exploited the space. The Vikings battled well, and showed strong forward play, but HRUFC deserved the win. The whole weekend was brilliant, and Huddersfield left a lasting impression on all the tourists.
Western Vikings would like to thank everyone at HRUFC who contributed in creating such a positive experience for these young players, particularly Age Grade Chair Tracy Davis and all the coaches. We hope to stay in touch, and wish you all the very best for the future.
