It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ian E. Fiddes.
Ian was the eldest of four sons of Huddersfield RL captain Alex Fiddes who had moved to the town from his native Hawick in the Scottish borders in 1933 to play the professional game.
Ian played for Huddersfield RUFC in the 1950’s and 60’s and spent two spells as First XV captain. He was regarded as one of the most gifted centres ever to play for Huddersfield and played alongside his brother Bill in the team.
Ian moved to South Africa with his family in 1964 to pursue his career in textiles. He came back to the UK on retirement and has been a loyal Patron and supporter of the club and team since his return.
He is remembered by his contemporaries as one of the finest players ever to pull on a club jersey and by all who knew him as a true gentleman. Our deepest sympathies go to his wife Sue, children Allison, Graeme and Susie and his brother Bill.
For those wishing to send their personal condolences to Ian’s wife Sue the address is 5 Rushfield Vale, Fenay Bridge Road, Fenay Bridge, Huddersfield, HD8 0BX.
we will post a separate notice when the funeral arrangements are announced.
