Adam Malthouse becomes latest player to ‘top the ton.’
Ken (K.T.) Shaw played scrum half for Huddersfield and Yorkshire, had two spells as captain of the First XV after the war and was HRUFC President in 1955/56. Throughout his life he was a devoted servant of the club and in 1984 he wrote and produced a remarkable book to mark the first 75 years of the club he loved. It presents an amazing historical record of the club’s matches, players, tours and everything else rugby related. Sadly after Ken passed away no one took on the job of record keeping to continue his good work.
As a consequence we have a complete and detailed record of player appearances into the 80’s but no such accurate record of the same since then. In the present First XV squad several players have made over 100 appearances including Nick Sharpe, Joel Hinchliffe, Alex Battye and Tom Owen. (Apologies to anyone inadvertently missed out.)
Adam Malthouse is the latest player to pass the milestone. Adam began his rugby in the Age Grade at Yarnbury and represented other clubs before joining Huddersfield in 2014. He has been a loyal, hard-working and dynamic member of senior squad whose contribution has been greatly admired by those who have played alongside him and watched him. His 100th league game will be v Sale this week.
Congratulations Adam, all the best for the next 100!
