Huddersfield RUFC backs coach Phil Gostling is parting company with the club at the end of this season after a four year stint. Phil joined the Lockwood Park outfit as second team coach in 2014/15 before moving on to become Head Coach Gareth Lewis’ right hand man. He then spent three seasons as the team’s backs and attack coach. Lewis says,’ I’d like to thank Phil for all he’s done over the last four seasons. He is an excellent coach and we’ve been a strong team together. His commitment and dedication to coach and improve the playing squad has been exemplary.’
Phil hails from Lichfield in Staffordshire and played fly half for his local club as well as for Loughborough University, Cambridge RFC and Staffordshire. A recent promotion to Head of Sport and the senior leadership team at Rodillian Academy in Leeds, along with the demands of a young family, means that he feels unable to offer the necessary time to his present role at the club going forward.
‘It has been great to play a part in the recent success at Huddersfield, it is an amazing club. The players are a great bunch of lads with a lot of home grown talent and I have learned such a lot in my time there. The management of the club is very dynamic with a lot of great people doing a lot of fine work behind the scenes to make it all happen. On and off the field the folk at Huddersfield are the salt of the Earth.’
In the close season the club are seeking to find a replacement for Gostling and have the new comer in post in readiness for the pre-season preparation. Everyone at the club want to thank Phil for his efforts during his time at the club and wish him all the best for the future.
