On Sunday 15th April our Under 16’s tied their Yorkshire Plate final at Dinnington. They tied 12 points all against Ripon and in consequence share the trophy. Tries by Alisdair Braidley and Owen Peacock along with a fine equalising pressure kick conversion by Ethan Myers earned them the draw.
At Lockwood Park the Academy were hosting a touring side from Syston RFC in Leicestershire. Huddersfield held a ten point lead at the break thanks to two ties by Joe Summers. However the Leicester lads hit back with a couple of their own in the second half and nicked the game 15 10 with a third in stoppage time. Syston tour organiser Paul Berridge was full of praise for Huddersfield, complementing Academy manager Tracy Davis and everyone at the club on their hospitality and organisation, extending an invite for a return at any time.
On the same day our mini section participated in Doncaster’s Festival of Mini Rugby. Our Under 11’s fielded two teams in the event which had clubs from all over the north of England along with Musselburgh from Scotland. The ‘Clarets’ won 3 of their 4 games and the ‘Golds’ won 2 and drew 1. The Under 12’s also had a fine tournament producing some of the best rugby of the day.
