On Sunday 22nd April Huddersfield Academy team defeated Beverley 18 points to 17 to win the Yorkshire Bowl in a thrilling and highly entertaining final at Moortown. Although Huddersfield dominated possession and threatened for long spells Beverley took a 12 point lead thanks to a couple of breakaway tries, one of which was converted.
The well organised and determined Beverley defence kept Huddersfield at bay until late in the first half when a Mason Kershaw penalty and an unconverted try by hooker Alex Lee narrowed the gap.
In the second half with the slope advantage another penalty by Mason and a try by flanker Leighton Davis, which Mason converted, gave Field a six point lead. However despite sustained pressure the Beverley defence held firm and Field were denied the score that might have put the game to bed. With time running out Beverley hit back with a third unconverted try taking them within a point.
In the very last play of the game Beverley were awarded a penalty which could have earned them the Bowl but the kick was dragged just wide of the left hand upright.
