The last weekend of the 2017/18 rugby season is almost upon us and a busy one is in store at Lockwood Park.

On Friday the ‘Annual Black Tie Dinner’ is taking place in the Waterloo Suite commencing at 7pm for 7.30pm. Club President Richard Sykes will be welcoming special guest speakers Ken (The Bard) Walker and John Spencer. Ken is an entertaining poet who will be regaling diners with some specially written rugby themed new poems. John is President of the RFU, a former England captain, Barbarian captain and British Lion. He was tour manager for the Lions 2017 test series in New Zealand and his keenly anticipated speech will be rounding off what promises to be a fantastic evening. A few places are still left and booking can be made through the club office. Menu and details are on the website.

On Saturday the First XV are playing their final National 2 North match v South Leicester, kick off 3pm. This will be preceded by a pre-match lunch in the Waterloo Suite at 1.30pm. Bookings for lunch are still being taken and details are on ‘Events’ section of the website. The A-Team are also in home action against Wortley in their final game of the season, kicking off at 2pm on pitch 2. A volunteer’s buffet follows the game in gratitude to all those members who have given their time so generously for the benefit of the club. A win for ‘Field’ could mean they may equal their best ever finish at Level 4 and good support on the day is hoped for to see them home. As ever ‘good ale’ will be on hand pump and tap to celebrate in the club bars after the match.

On Sunday our Yorkshire Bowl winning Academy and Yorkshire Plate winning Under 16’s teams are combining to take on York Academy. Kick off 1pm. Our talented youngsters will be displaying their skills and hopefully rounding this season off and setting their stall out for 2018/19 with another win to back up their county triumphs. Anyone who has seen the boys play will know how entertaining their matches are to watch, if you haven’t this is the last chance this year to see our future first teamers run out before the close season. Come along and support the lads and enjoy a beer after the game.

See you at Lockwood Park. Up the ‘Field’!
