The recent Tour de Danny sponsored cycle event has reached its £5000 fund raising target. The tour, which passed through Lockwood Park, was in aid of the DB12 Foundation. This is a charity which aims to provide extra-curricular PE contact for young people in schools with a view to promoting positive attitude and values. The scheme is being rolled out in Oldham and Kirklees and is already having a positive impact, particularly with the more challenging students.
The charity was set up in memory of former player Danny Beal who died in 2017 aged just 12 years. Danny was one of our Age Grade players, a captain of both his club and school rugby teams. His father Dave, who is the founder and director of the charity and organised the event, was one of our former Age Grade coaches. The 75 mile long ride started at Crossley Heath School and finished at the Huddersfield YMCA ground taking participants through many places which featured in Danny’s sporting life.
