It is with great sadness that we report the death of Bill Fiddes. He passed away peacefully in Leeds General Infirmary on Sunday evening following a short period of ill health.
Bill is the last of the Fiddes family who had strong rugby connections with Huddersfield. His parents moved from Hawick when Father Alex signed for the League Club and his brothers Jack (twin) and Ian also played for us. Bill with brother Ian who died last year had very successful careers with Club from 1954 to 1964.
Bill made 163 appearances in the First XV and enjoyed his National Service playing in a strong Royal Signals XV where he also excelled as a sevens player.
His business career as a Commercial Artist took him to Montreal, Canada and upon his return he established a successful silk screen printing business.
He leaves his wife Moira, daughter Katherine, son-in-law Michael and two Grandchildren. The club wish to pass on their condolences to the family.
The service will be held at 11.15am on Friday 19th October at Parkwood Crematorium, Elland. Family and friends are invited back to Lockwood Park after the sevice from 1pm to help celebrate Bill’s life.
