It is with great sadness that the club announces the sudden death of Michael ‘Mick’ Murphy at the age of 77.

Mick was a former club Chairman and Extra C stalwart. Mick played rugby union for Waterloo RUFC as well as league for Leigh, Barrow, St Helens, Bradford Northern, Wagga Wagga, Tonneins XIII and St. Jaques XIII. He also gained County honours for Lancashire and International Caps for Wales. Mick was also a former Chairman at Huddersfield RLFC.

Mick and wife Rosemary opened Portland House Nursery at Lindley in 1991 and went on to acquire Harlequin Nursery, Holly Bank Nursery and and later opened Oakwood House Nursery & Forest School, to form Portland Nurseries Ltd where Mick was General Manager.

Mick will be greatly missed by all his friends at the club and we would like to pass on oursincere condolences to Mick’s family and friends including children Leoncia, Michael, Francesca and Anastasia and his Grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements will be posted in due course.
