FALCONS 0 – 21 SANDAL – MATCH REPORT
It was a day of disappointment at Lockwood Park as a long day of rugby ended in defeat to Sandal 2s.
With over 100 members, players and their families down at the club from 8:30am to watch the Springboks dismantle England with relative ease, the highlight of many a local’s day was the cooked breakfast on offer.
A 2pm kick-off saw the visiting side draw first blood within five minutes. A Sandal prop busting
through the line ten meters out allowed for a converted try to the right of the posts. The rest of the first half was relatively uneventful as both teams forced numerous mistakes from the other.
High kicks from Josh Walker and Ollie Scrimshaw piled the pressure on a Sandal back three struggling to catch in slippery conditions but Huddersfield were unable to take advantage.
The second half started more promisingly for the Falcons. A gigantic tackle from Joe Morrison against a hesitant winger could be heard around the valley and suggested that the second half could be different for the Huddersfield side. However, Sandal had different ideas and quickly scored two converted tries to quash any newfound momentum. Despite this, the home side never gave up throughout and were unfortunate not to get points on the board so a final score of 21-0 may be a little unfair.
Next week the Falcons hope to get back to winning ways as they host Morley in a friendly at Lockwood Park.
