HUDDERSFIELD v LOUGHBOROUGH STUDENTS – MATCH PREVIEW

Huddersfield Looking To Move Out Of Relegation Zone Against Loughborough Students

Huddersfield will be looking to continue their upturn in form on home turf as Loughborough Students come and visit Lockwood Park this weekend.

Field are unbeaten in their last two games on home soil and will want to turn Lockwood into the fortress it was last season to help them propel up the table.

Currently third from bottom, Field are two points adrift of Luctonians and safety as the season comes towards the Christmas break.

Following this weekend, Field travel away to the aforementioned Luctonians before ending 2019 with the visit of Otley, three fixtures which with positive results could see them put some distance between themselves and the bottom three before going away for the festive holidays.

Loughborough will prove a tough nut to crack however, having eased past Wharfedale 48-12 last time out and currently sitting in a lofty 4th position as they adapt well since dropping down from National 1 last season.

The students need a win to try and maintain a push towards the top two, whilst Field could move as high as 10th with a bonus point victory in a congested bottom half of the table.

A loss to Caldy on the road last time out can be excused after two yellow cards swung the balance of the game, where Field had looked very good in spells before being unable to hold onto their 13-6 advantage gained at half time.

A fast start that day with a Lewis Bradley try in the opening minutes set the standard for the first half performance, and if that can be replicated this weekend along with a tad more discipline then Field will stand every chance of walking away with a positive result.

Head Coach Gareth Lewis has commented: “Loughborough are having a good season following their relegation from National One. They play a good brand of rugby, have pace and power and are highly skilled.”

“The challenge for us this week is to bring and sustain the intensity we brought last week for sixty minutes against the best team in the competition. We are suffering with a few injuries once again but the team that enters the field is good enough to get the win we clearly need.”

With big games coming up, Field will be looking for a good start this weekend to give them some momentum heading into the crucial Christmas period.
