Huddersfield Rugby Union Club are busy reshaping their squad for another crack at promotion in National 2 North.
Head coach Gareth Lewis – himself signed up for the next two seasons – has lost highly-rated prop Harry Whitfield to Rotherham Titans and experienced fly half Chris Johnson, who has returned to Sale.
But the Lockwood Park boss has made some significant signings, including full-back Lewis Workman who has just put pen to paper for the 2019-20 campaign which kicks off against Hull at home on September 7.
Returning to the club are Yorkshire tight head prop Loz Sanderson, after spells at Sale and Otley, and back rower Harvey Keighley-Payne, who played last season at Old Rishworthians.
South African tight head Josh Crickmay arrives at Lockwood Park after spells around the Yorkshire leagues, while Lewis has moved to snap up former Yorkshire Carnegie academy fly half Cail Cookland, who has been with Northern Premier side Harrogate.
Lock Tor Borrowdale, brother of Guy, continues his dual registration from Yorkshire Carnegie while Lewis is delighted to have three players back from long-term injuries – hooker Ben Morrill, centre Tom Owen and wing Brandon Conway.
Lewis explained: “I am delighted that the vast majority of the squad will be with us once again, which allows us to get the continuity we want and to improve further as a club, with the core group of players.
“As always, we wish the departing players well and thank them for their fantastic efforts in a Huddersfield shirt.
“And, as always, we are delighted to welcome some new additions, which give us added quality and depth to the squad.
“All the players are hungry to make an impact in a Huddersfield shirt in the new campaign.”
Lewis is continuing to work on strengthening the squad which finished fourth in National 2 North last season, ahead of the club’s opening friendly, which is at home to Lymm on Saturday, August 17.
The following Saturday, Field will visit Hull Ionians in another friendly, before the league season kicks off a fortnight later at home to Hull.
Huddersfield’s first away trip is to Otley on September 14, with the second home fixture against Sedgley Park on September 21.
