DINNINGTON 7-77 FALCONS – MATCH REPORT

Dinnington 7 – 77 Huddersfield Falcons

(Scrimshaw 4, Cossey2, Morrison 2, Woodhouse,Berry, Cadogan, Hampshire, Crickmay)

The Falcons roared back to winning ways with a 13 try rout of Dinnington 2’s.

Disappointingly, the customary slow start allowed Dinnington to score first. The home side starting with much more purpose and direction, deservedly going over for a converted score after only 5 minutes.

The Falcons woke up and it became clear there was a gulf of difference in pace and power between the two sides.

The forwards were totally dominant. Big Josh Crickmay on the tight head fearsome in the scrum also showed lovely hands linking with the backs. Kenyan brethren Andre Baillon cementing his place at hooker, alongside young Will Cossey on the loose head.  Of the thirteen tries scored, Cossey accounted for two. His second score a touch of class. Receiving the ball around half way Cossey beat the tight forwards then ran a graceful arc gassing the full back. The epitome of the modern prop this 18yr old is one to watch.

With such forward dominance the backs ran riot. Scrimshaw left his kicking boots at home but showed class with the ball in hand to score four.

Phil Cadogan playing at centre for the first time looked the part, distributing well and popping up in the right places to support the rampant Joe Morrison at inside centre. Phil got a deserved score in the first half after lovely hands from Joe put him into space.

Morrison himself scored two. The usual mazy running and power too much for a retreating Dinnington side.

Former academy team mate Leighton Davis had a great game on the flank and put Harry Woodhouse in for a lovely score under the posts. Drawing the midfield defence Leighton showed delicate hands to pop off to Woodhouse at pace who ghosted under the posts.

Best of the rest included Anthony Berry’s deserved try. Stepping up from the A team, Bezza looked the part on the left wing. A break down the flank saw him link up with Scrimshaw and Cossey. A couple of outrageous offloads from the pair put Bezza back inside – cutting a lovely line he scored under the posts.

The introduction of the experienced Hinchcliff and Stringwell seemed cruel against the flagging Dinnington side. The intensity of the hit in the rucks going up another level. Inevitably this created more space outside. George himself made a classic snake hips break through the centre and almost went the length only to be tackled by the retreating full back.

Moments later Pete Hampshire showed the benefits of youth and pace, after a similar break saw him go round the last man and score under the posts.

MOM – Will Cossey
DOTD – Danny ‘Steeplechase’ Hood & Harry ‘Hands like a digital watch’ Granger
