2019/20 followed the same pattern as the previous year with a slow start, steady improvement, ultimately reaching a point of invincibility; Covid caught us at our peak! Two significant events marked our season, coaching assistance from senior members of the club and the addition of 6 new players, which at U14s is pretty good going. On the coaching front Alisdair Bradley, Harry Singh and Will Cossey were invaluable. Their up-to-date training plans and current playing knowledge converted our lacklustre start to one of which we are proud. Many thanks.
Our new players include a mixture of lads who returned to us, rugby league stars and our first award Will Pinkney, a young man who until September had never picked up a ball. Will, congratulations on being awarded our “Best Newcomer”.
We have 2 other awards to announce, Players, player and coaches selection.
On a stinking wet, cold day the last place you want to be is standing at Old Brods wearing the No. 15 shirt, waiting for the “Men” in black to come charging at you. The U14s Players player is this man, Jack Lawrence. Voted for by his peers (almost unanimously) Jack revels in the most testing conditions and saved our bacon countless times.
Finally we have the coaches choice. This year we have chosen Dan Cockayne. Dan typifies everything a coach wants from a player, commitment, putting training into game play and the respect of his fellow players. Injured during the season, Dan along with Harry Bowser turned up to all coaching sessions and every game, home and away to support the team.
Finally I would like to make mention that 4 of our squad have made it onto to the ERDPP scheme (Will Heath, Alexander Exley, Ben Johnson and Jack Lawrence) with at least 2 others earmarked to join them in the Autumn draft.
