Huddersfield RUFC walking rugby team competed in their first tournament this past weekend. They ended up finishing runners-up in the glorious sunshine on Lytham St Annes beach, losing to Fylde Barbarians 3-1 in the final.
The Huddersfield team faced Gloucester Relics, Kendal Greybeards and Fylde Barbarians in the round-robin tournament organised by Fylde Rugby Community Foundation. The team finished top scorers with 15 tries, 4 courtesy of Bill Duncombe.
The team was managed by President Billy Thornton and captained by Chris Evans. The rest of the team consisted of Martin Walker, Tim Wadsworth, Richard Szostak, Jim Brook, Chris Brook, Simon Wilson, Clive Berry, Bill Duncombe and David Knight.
Three of the team; Bill Duncombe, David Knight and Martin Walker were pulling on the Huddersfield shirt for the first time, making their debuts at the ages of 70, 63 and 68 respectively.
After the tournament, the team enjoyed a few drinks in Bar 15 (The Vault).
