Lockwood Park was bursting at the seams with over 50 visiting teams attending our Age Grade Festivals of Rugby over the last two weekends in March. It’s been four years since we’ve been able to host full scale festivals and we were delighted to welcome over 600 boys and girls to attend the U7-U9 Festival (20th March) and the U10-U12 Festival (27th March).
This was the first tournament experience for many of the players and the Festival Organisers were keen to make it not only a financial success but also fantastic rugby community experience for players, visitors, coaches, supporters and volunteers.
Special thanks to Elizabeth Priest and Tim Taylor and the other Age Grade Managers and Coaches who did a brilliant job in ‘rallying the troops’ and our Huddersfield parent volunteers did us proud. An event on this scale could not run without ‘many hands’ and the willingness of parents to get involved was overwhelming.
There was some great rugby to watch and many of our visiting Coaches commented on the ‘sportsmanship’ and exemplary rugby values displayed by our Huddersfield coaching teams and players.
Thanks also to Claire and Andre providing breakfast butties and gallons of tea and coffee from the refreshment cabin.
The financials are still being finalised but we estimate a fundraising total of £4,500. An outstanding achievement and a huge thank you to everyone involved!
But the best comment emailed from one of the Dinnington Coaches . . .
“We’ve got quite a few players in our side who have only recently taken up the game, and it was fantastic to show them and their families why rugby, and the community around it, is so special.”
