Well done Bill!

Congratulations to Bill Duncombe who has achieved the RFU Mentoring Award. Bill has successfully completed the RFU course, which is aimed at those supporting or wishing to support players, coaches, referees or club volunteers in their development.

The England Rugby Mentor Award was introduced for those who wish to develop the skills of others they are working with. The course focuses on behaviour change, learning and support of individuals with their practice. Irwin Mitchell Solicitors have partnered with clubs to deliver this piece of work, with the aim of having a trained mentor in every club that offers Under 14 to Under 18 rugby.

The course involved one face to face day, plus three additional remote monthly sessions, which took place last November, December and January. To qualify candidates were required to attend all three days and then complete a portfolio on someone that they are working with, applying their learning from the course throughout the season at their own club.

Bill said, “You learn better techniques on how to get to know someone, forming open questions and helping the mentee to do self-analysis and identify their strengths and areas that need working on. Using SWOT (strengths, weaknesses/work-ons, opportunities and threats) and GROW (goal, reality, options and way forward) analysis and models, the idea is to bring about improvement through personal development.”
