HRUFC Under 9 End of Season Tour – Whitby 2022
After two years long wait, the HRUFC Under 9 squad were finally tour bound and headed to the east coast over the bank holiday weekend; Saturday 30th April until Monday 2nd May.
After a quick lunch break, the first stop was Alpamare Water Park in Scarbados. Three fantastic hours of water slide action for the kids and chilling in the heated outdoor pool for the adults! Team sponsor Michael Bell deserves a mention here, for inventing his own unique way of riding the slides!
After the presentation of tour shirts, we set off for Whitby. We arrived at the YHA, with great excitement. It was brilliant accommodation in a superb location, right next to the Abbey. The facilities were great, excellent communal areas both internally and externally, and a fantastic full English breakfast both days to get the days off to a good start.
After pizza and pop, an early night was had by all, after a hectic first day.
The highlight of Sunday mornings short coach journey to Whitby RUFC was passing Whitby’s three LIDL’s. The match itself was a true spectacle and celebrated the progress both teams had made since the introduction of contact at Christmas. The game was stopped on the 9th minute for the singing of Happy 9th Birthday to Oscar. Thanks to Justin and the Whitby Under 9 team for hosting us and their kind hospitality. We would love to welcome Whitby back to Lockwood Park anytime.
An afternoon walk down the 199 steps and up to Whitby’s iconic Whalebones, for obligatory team photos, was followed by a stroll along the pier. Passing the relentless number of amusement arcades provided the parents with a challenge, as did the challenge of feeding Fish and Chips to everyone. In a harbour town like Whitby, this shouldn’t have been an issue…………..eventually everyone was fed!
Back at the YHA, the management team donned formal wear for the Annual End of Season Presentation Evening. Team sponsors Michael Bell and Dave Wilson were thanked for their ongoing support and welcomed on stage to present the awards. All players were congratulated on their achievements and received trophies and certificates.
After checking out on Monday morning, the tour party set out for Bridlington South Beach for a day on the beach. The most popular activity being repeatedly burying each other! Thanks to Dave for sizzling the sausages!
Thank you again to our tour sponsors : Langricks Michael Bell, Stratas and Data Forge; and also to our international partners Strawberry Woo and Academy Communitas.
A top time was had by all – we cannot wait for 2023!
