It is with great sadness that we announce that Philip Davies passed away on Sunday at the age 87, leaving his wife Jane, children Sarah and Michael and Grandchildren.
He moved to Huddersfield in 1961 as the representative of Mobil Oil with whom he remained for his business career with a final appointment in Senior marketing management in London via relocations to Wilmslow and Wombourne (Wolverhampton).
His rugby playing commenced with Streatham RFC (now Streatham Croydon) and Philip played in the Huddersfield First XV 72 times from 1961 to 1965 when business took him to Cheshire. Having met his wife Jane, a member of the Ladies Tea Committee they chose retirement in Huddersfield and he renewed his activities at the Club which was at the time in the midst of seeking new premises.
Philip was invited to manage the relocation and was the key negotiator in the purchase of Lockwood Park, the Lottery Grant and with Kirklees Council. He was Club Chairman in 1997-99, President 2006-07 and an Honorary Life Member.
