Sorry for the delay, my fingers have only just defrosted; yes Winter rugby has now arrived!
It is a good 90 minutes to get to Wharfedale and when you get there you wonder if it takes them the same time to get there for their home games? It is a beautiful setting in the middle of nowhere.
A squad of 17 had their heads in the right place and playing into the wind in the first half we were solid and arrived at the interval 3-5 ahead.
Like me, you must be thinking that with the wind in the second half, it was going to be a breeze (excuse the pun). Enter the fumbling, knocking on etc. etc. zone. The second half was our greatest ever example of how not to close a game out! With a final result of 10-5 we were left with a very, very quiet changing room. In a bizarre way all the lads put in a shift. Les Dawson on the piano is probably the best way to describe the fact that we couldn’t match the effort with points.
We have an opportunity in the new year to right this and the Scunthorpe wrong and guess what, we will!
