All match reports from Brods start with the weather. When we arrived David Attenborough and his crew were filming a polar special; it was Baltic!
Famous for the slope and the wind we started facing both. As you know our starts have been particularly woeful this year; not today. From the off we were on the front foot and 4 minutes in we took the points to go 0-3 up. In a blink of an eye it was 0-10 with Shelts going over for a try. Watch out for this theme as the story unravels.
This woke Brods up who used the wind and the slope to claw their way back in, with the half time score balanced at 10-13.
With the wind and the slope in the second half surely we couldn’t lose? We did our best to and found ourselves 24-20 down with 5 minutes to go. To get to the 20 involved Shelts scoring again with still more to come.
It is 10 years since HRUFC recorded a victory against Brods in either age group. The last 5 minutes had us camped on their line and with a try disallowed we were literally at our wits end. Then it happened, Mr Champagne rugby himself got over the line and the Shelton hat trick had us at 24-27. And that ladies and gentlemen is how it finished.
Many thanks to Brods for their respect to our victory. Of all the teams we play Brods is the one that we know the best with many of the lads at college with ours.
Rugby was definitely the winner today. The whole squad gave everything they had with outstanding individual performances all over the pitch. Ollie Brady had a great day at 10, with Jack and Ed driving the line forward from the 9 position. By the way did I mentioned that Shelts got a hat trick?
Enjoy the moment lads you were mint!
