Momentum is a marvellous thing and HRUFC currently have it by the boat load. A magic win for the 1st XV yesterday, our under U16s cruising into the Yorkshire cup final and of course the Colts!
We were beaten narrowly in the away fixture and following last week’s heroics were a little over confident at the start. Wharfedale soon reminded us why they are above us in the league and the lads had to press their reset button. Last week Alex Exley was sporting England water polo speedos and it was with a swallow dive he crossed the line to give us a 5-0 lead. Followed by a penalty and a Euan Radley converted try we were off and away at 15-0. Not content with the lead we decided to make it more fun by missing 5 tackles to give Wharfedale a try.
Wharfedale came out in the second half with a new level of determination and all of a sudden we were at 15-15.
In previous games we have failed to seal the deal. Thankfully those days are behind us and a lot of pressure gave us a penalty in front of the posts to finish the game 18-15.
An all round solid day out from the lads. Dan Baker our player of the month took a heavy knock to his ankle. The good news is that it isn’t broken and he’ll be back in a couple of weeks.
Today we had a guest appearance from Lewis Bradley our club captain who helped settle the lads in some sticky moments. Thanks Lewis, the lads and coaches really appreciated it.
5 wins on the bounce has us flying up the table. A win away at Scunthorpe in a couple of weeks will secure 4th place. Something pre-Xmas we could only dream about.
