Huddersfield RUFC are pleased to announce that Neil Ryan and Rob Anderson will be joint head coaches for the 2023-24 season.
Ryan has been with the club as backs and attack coach since 2021. Anderson, who is currently the club’s forwards coach, will join Ryan in the role. The pair will replace Gareth Lewis, who will leave the club at the end of the 2022-23 season.
Ryan said: “I would like to thank the club for offering me the position of joint head coach and look forward to continuing working with Rob and the players building on the progression made this season.”
Anderson added: “I’m really excited to be taking on this role alongside Neil. We’ve got a great group of players here and I’m confident that we can achieve our goals.”
Ryan is a former fly half comes has an impressive rugby pedigree both as a player and a coach. Ryan’s senior playing career began at Waterloo RUFC in 1992 after which there followed spells at the top level with Sale and Orrell and later on at West Park St Helens. He is a Level 3 coach and has coached Lancashire Under 15, Under 16 and Under 20’s. At club level he was Head Coach at Southport RUFC from 2016 to 2019 and he worked for twelve months as Director of Rugby for the Firwood Waterloo women’s team. He has also recently been appointed backs coach for North U20’s County team.
Anderson is a former Huddersfield RUFC Age Grade player before going on to play for Bradford Grammar School in his teens. Playing at lock forward he was picked to play for England at Under 16 and Under 18 and represented England Students. Having gone through the Leeds Tykes Academy system he had spells at the top level with Saracens and Wasps. His other clubs have included Jersey Reds, Esher and Rosslyn Park.
Huddersfield RUFC Chairman of Rugby, Paul Sharrock, said: “We’re delighted to have appointed Neil and Rob as joint head coaches. They’re both experienced coaches who know the club well and we’re confident that they’re the right people to lead us into the new season.”
