Hot, hot, hot describes both the weather and our inaugural Colts 10s tournament!
Having grown up playing all the visiting teams there was a true festival mood between coaches and players alike. All teams were set for a good day and to take the opportunity to see how their new Colts squads would blend.
The format of 10 minutes each way in the pool games allowed everyone, including refs to get plenty of water on board. The addition of try scorers having to drop kick their own tries added a new dimension and allowed the much underrated props and second rows to show off their true skills. Nice one Connor!
It was the luck of the draw but the last 2 pool games were actually semi finals. The HRUFC white team narrowly went through with a 5-0 victory. The HRUFC maroon team drew 10-10 with Hull and missed out on the A final on the number of tries scored rule.
The final was cut from 15 minutes each way to 10 and there no complaints from players, refs or coaches. HRUFC whites used home advantage and the support from maroons to come home 19-0 victors!!
You can’t run events like this without a lot of help. A major thank you goes out to Mike Dickinson, Gareth Tinker and Darren Neilley who reffed magnificently. Thanks lads.
For me the great news is that we have a great squad, full of young men excited to learn and get better. All is set for a great 23/24 season.
