After 2 weeks of biblical rain and no games we were unsure what to expect today. A big cheer to Bramley for getting the game on. The pitch was heavy but we’ve all played on much, much worse.
15 minutes in, there wasn’t much between the 2 sides when Bramley struck first with a penalty. With the conditions underfoot it looked like it was going to be a day for the forwards. Not HRUFC who have a back line of very quick, very talented lads who following an instruction to run everything put on a masterclass!
It is magic to see wingers score tries and all four today came through that channel. First up was Henry Parkin with a 50M dash, followed by a penalty try and then 10 minutes later Jake Lynch popped up on the other wing. Both tries were admirably converted by Lance Barker. Half time arrived with HRUFC 3-21 ahead.
More of the same in the second half with Daniel Atkins scoring his first for the team. The conversion here was the best of the year so far with Lance Barker slotting from the sideline.
With 10 minutes to go Bramley scored an unconverted try making it 8-28.
Jake Lynch wasn’t overly pleased with this and ran in a 5th for HRUFC. Lance is human; he missed this conversion.
Most of this report centres on the back line. You can’t score tries without the ball. Leading from the front as ever, Will Pinkney drove the pack like a demented Husky driver. A tremendous effort from all of them with a special mention for Tom, Joe, Max, Marcus, Kai and Dan. All from the U17 squad these lads played as well as any of the U18s out there on the pitch.
A great day with a great squad.
