Doncaster Knights have magnificent facilities which are matched equally by their hospitality.
Today is Colts Yorkshire Cup round 1 and with a bye we found ourselves without a game. Doncaster run both U17 & U18 squads and volunteered their U17 to play us today.
This gave us a great opportunity to run everyone and try lads in different positions. Substitutions were easy as we had almost 2 full teams with 28!
After a scrappy start we started to find our way with a lovely individual try from Amos Stancliffe. It then started to come thick and fast with tries from Henry Parkin, Daniel Atkins, Tom Scott, Tom Lay and Max Turner. As ever Lance Barker had his kicking boots on with 4 first half conversions.
The second half saw team 2 come on and once again after a slow start we dropped a gear with Josh Cooke, Dan Comerford and Frankie Kilroy in the points. With Lance off the pitch Ayden Deacon stepped up for kicking duties and managed a couple.
Doncaster suffered a couple of injuries and were short of players. A special thanks to Alex Exley, Henry Parkin and Henry Forber who all played for them at different times in the match.
The match ended with a strong win to HRUFC. All credit to Doncaster who scored a converted try towards the end of the game.
The coaches took a lot from today, the main thing being how many needless penalties we gave away. Lads we won’t get past Ilkley next week if we don’t sort it out!
Let’s have a good week at training and be ready for our N. Yorkshire guests next week.
