Weekly Age Grade Round Up

Here is the weekly Age Grade Rugby Round up for the games that took place on Sunday the 19th November.

We have a thriving youth set up at Huddersfield and we want to share that with all of you!

Colts

One day, surely one day, we’ll start strongly! Not today, the HRUFC gearbox was stuck in neutral and we ambled along for 10 minutes. We have a number of players who can take a game by the scruff of the neck and today it was Tom L’s turn to crank it up with a try on the 10th minute duly converted by Lance B. Ilkley struck back with a try of their own to remind us we were in a proper game making it 5-7.
With the gearbox mended we then went on a roll with Alfie A and Connor T getting in on the try scoring action taking us into the break 5-19.As with last week we needed to loan players. A special thanks to Dan C, Joe B, Harry T and Max T who all helped out.The second half saw the arrival of our latest recruit in Freddie W. It didn’t take him long to make an impression with a try that involved ballerina like movement to get the ball grounded. Welcome aboard Fred! The second half continued in the same 5th gear we ended the first. With tries for Josh C, another for Alfie and a cracker from Pablo P. The match finished 41-10 with HRUFC scoring 7 tries and 3 conversions.Get your wellies on for next week. We are off to Wharfedale. Let’s give them a good old West Yorkshire surprise!

Under 14s
Huddersfield’s U14s travelled to the east coast for their Yorkshire Cu

p second round match against Scarborough. The first half was a tight affair with Huddersfield dominating with a solid defensive line. At half time Huddersfield were 5-0 up. During the second half Huddersfield began to play some free flowing rugby scoring a further four tries The game was played in good spirits and Scarborough put up a good fight. Try scorers for Huddersfield Henry B, Ben S, Mason M, Harry T, Hugo C.

The team move onto round three in January with confidence and high expectations. Well done boys!

Under 12s

The Under 12s hosted Sheffield Tigers at home on a drizzly autumn morning at Lockwood Park.

From previous encounters we knew the boys would be be in for a tough encounter against a very good team.
As the game began both teams showed their quality in defence. With Tigers gaining good field position they opened the scoring with a well worked try in the corner.
The damp conditions made for a few handling errors which slowed the flow of the game but to their credit the kids kept trying to run the ball out with James and Oliver F both making great runs from our 22 under pressure.
The tackling was intense and yards for both teams were hard earned, we grew into the game with Oliver G made a great break and was thwarted just short of the line.
With a couple of minutes remaining of the half, Tigers won a scrum 5 metres out. The ball came straight out of the back on our side, the Tigers scrum half reacted quickest to pick up and score.
At half time the players spoke about what they could do a little better and they went into the second half with a renewed energy.
With the pressure from George, Christian, Laurie and Oscar in the rucks and Mauls we started to see more of the ball. We had our Go Forward back!
Oliver M made a lung busting run, fending off would be tacklers winning a penalty to put us in great field position.
We were next to score with Finn bursting through the line with a powerful run beating three defenders.
The boys were getting on top and Oliver G was millimetres away from levelling things up. William was next to go close with a mazy run.
Great to see a few new faces this morning, both Frankie and Sammy had fantastic debuts making tackle after tackle! And Stan who came and enjoyed the match day experience ,looking forward to seeing him out on the grass next week.
As coaches it’s getting harder to pick a player of the week and all the kids gave 110% this morning. Isaac played his best game of the season making lots of tackles and a great skill to catch a ball inches from the ground and running hard into the opposition.
William, always tackles anyone who comes near and takes the ball forward testing opposition defences, his work rate for the team is brilliant to see and he gives the team confidence .A luxury this morning was to have a couple of subs ,unfortunately for the coaches William was the first to come off for a break and he spent the next 5 minutes asking when he was going back on🤣  Well done William Player of the week!
A massive thank you to Chris who refereed the game brilliantly this morning and parents Grandparents, friends and siblings for coming and supporting and encouraging the boys.

Great credit to both teams who put everything into the game, sometimes in sport you don’t get the rewards your efforts  deserve and the lads were disappointed but they can hold their heads up high as they gave everything for their teammates 💪

Under 11s
Well done to the under 11s who completed Beaumont Park junior Parkrun. Well done to everyone and thanks to all the Parkrun volunteers!

Under 9s

Our U9’s rugby team put on a show-stopping performance today against the Sheffield Tigers. It was like watching mini-rugby maestros out there on the field!

Skill, experience, and sharpness were the name of the game, and our team was totally in sync. We were on fire picking up those loose balls and doing some intercepting like it was second nature.
A pivotal component contributing to the ambiance of sportsmanship was the exemplary support from the parents. Their encouragement not only bolstered our team but also extended graciously to the visiting opponents, fostering a nurturing and encouraging environment for all young participants.”
