Colts vs Belgrano Athletic
What an amazing day of Rugby. Thank you very much to Belgrano Athletic, Pontefract and all involved at HRUFC for coming together in a celebration of some fantastic rugby on display
Pontefract played Belgrano first up and put on an excellent display to come out convincing winners.
Next up, Belgrano brought the big guns out to play Huddersfield who did themselves proud.
Match Report: You know it is going to be a special day when you have marigolds on at 09:30 and you are cleaning toilets. I ❤ HRUFC that much!!
It was amazing to see the lads arrive around 10:00, so focused, you could cut the tension with a knife!
A fabulous breakfast was followed by Pontefract up first. Lads, we definitely need to sort a game against them, they are a great unit. 10 minutes into the Ponte game I thought hello we could get a result here. Those thoughts disappeared when we saw Belgrano A come out to warm up. Argentina are famed for fine steaks, this lot were pure fillet!
Anthems done, it was game on. Rugby pundits say you win a game from defence, HRUFC have it in bundles and kept Belgrano out for the first 10 minutes. The first time we had the ball we turned it into 3 points. Game on!!!
Sadly it wasn’t Rourkes Drift and eventually Belgrano worked out that you could get around the side and later the middle of our Maginot line with their Blitzkrieg.
Today was all about experience and our lads will never forget it. We had 30 lads today and all got game time. I don’t often get emotional but at the end of the game I had nothing but pride for HRUFC Colts. An amazing group of guys who, I am 100% confident will all succeed in whatever they choose to do in life.
Individual mentions for me today go to Tracy, legend for her organisation. Sir Pinkers you nailed it and Alex Exley, an outstanding individual performance.
Where next? Belgrano have put us in touch with the their sister club in Barcelona. Anyone fancy it?
A very physical game of rugby for U14’s against Warrington. Had them on the back foot before HT 12-0. A good effort by the whole squad today but Warrington pipped us to 29-12. Always a cracking game against them and really challenging. Boys should be super proud of themselves.
The U12s took on a different kind of challenge this weekend. Enjoying white water rafting at the NWSC Nottingham. A fantastic day out!
It was lovely to welcome Under 11 players, coaches and parents from Wath Upon Dearne RUFC to Lockwood Park this morning! Some great rugby from both teams played in a fantastic spirit!
