U8’s

Welcome to HRUFC U8’s

We have a fantastic group of kids and parents who are focussed on having fun, working as a team and most of all enjoying rugby!

We are fully inclusive and welcome players of all abilities and experience.  We frequently have new players joining us mid-season where they will find a warm welcome and a group of children who are keen to show new team-mates the ropes, so if you are interested in bringing your son or daughter down to see what they think to rugby then please get in touch.

The U8’s play non-contact rugby through a mixture of training and games, with the main aim of developing a team ethos that is underpinned by the RFU Core Values of:

  • Teamwork
  • Respect
  • Enjoyment
  • Discipline
  • Sportsmanship

Team objectives

  • Have fun and enjoy the sport of rugby union!
  • Build confidence both on and off the pitch
  • Work together as a Team
  • Involve parents / carers to promote rugby as a sport for the whole family to enjoy

Training goals

  • Focus on the basic skills of passing, receiving and running with the ball and applying these into a game situation
  • Develop an understanding of the principles of defence and attack
  • Understand the different ways in which a defender can be beaten
  • Understand the basic rules of the game
  • Encourage communication, cooperation and spatial awareness
  • Prepare the team for the introduction of ‘contact’ at U9 level

Kit

As with any sport players need specific kit.  We ask that ask of our Age Grade players have rugby boots, socks, shorts, shirt, mouth guard and water bottle

Players are expected to wear full club kit for fixtures with other clubs.  Club kit does not have to be worn for training, other kit can be worn.

All official club kit can be bought from our suppliers O’Neill’s via this link.

We are very grateful to  Langricks Michael Bell Accountancy and Pentagon Motor Group who have very generously sponsored our 2020 Tour shirts.

Please be aware that it can get very cold in winter.  Players should wear plenty of layers to ensure that they can remain warm during sessions.

Wearing layers also means that players can discard items as they warm up and put them on again as they cool down.  Please note that, as a safety measure, training tops should be without zips.

MAKE SURE THAT EVERY PIECE OF YOUR CHILD’S KIT IS LABELLED WITH THEIR NAME.

For our advice and recommendations about items of kit please follow the links:

NO PLAYER WILL BE ADMITTED INTO THE CLUBHOUSE IN RUGBY BOOTS OR SOILED RUGBY CLOTHING

PLEASE NOTE: HRUFC warmly welcomes all visitors to our facilities. In order to keep the club house clean can we remind our visitors that players MUST bring a change of clothes in order to access the bar and food areas. Players in dirty match gear will be refused access to the bar and catering facilities.

Can we also remind our visitors that DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED on any of our pitches. This represents a health risk to all players and Age Grade in particular.

You must return your dog to your car if asked to do so. If you do not comply then you will be reported to the Management Committee who may impose further sanctions.

We hope that you agree these two requests will make your visit to our club more comfortable and enjoyable.

A COVID-19 policy applies to anyone visiting and using the changing, bar and offices at Lockwood Park. Please familiarise yourself with that policy and observe its provisions.
